GarageBuddy Installation Guide

GarageBuddy complete installation video thumbnail showing step-by-step guide to attaching garage door covers.

Two ways to hang your GarageBuddy — both easy, just a little different:

A. The Quick & Easy Method – Fast, straightforward, and up in minutes.
B. The Hidden Velcro Method – A discreet setup for those who want to keep Velcro out of sight.

Pick the one that works best for you!

Method A- The Quick & Easy Method

(Most popular — up in minutes!)

1. Clean the Surface

Close Your garage door and wipe the top of your garage door with rubbing alcohol or soap water to remove dust and debris. Let it dry.

2. Stick The Velcro Base

(Before putting the Velcro, hold the cover in place and confirm the bottom edge sits where you want.)

Apply the Velcro strip (full or in sections) and press firmly. Then attach the banner to the Velcro.

3. Attach The Top

Attach the top of the banner to the Velcro.

4. Hook the Corners

Open the door 1/4. Adjust the size of elastic bands so the cover is snug but not overstretched. Stretch them and hook them onto the second hinge behind your garage door. Open and close the door once. If too tight at halfway, lengthen slightly.

Voila! Your transformation is complete.

But what if you want to remove the Velcro?

It's simple. Our velcro is designed to come off clean by heating it up using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive and peel it off slowly. Remove any residue with adhesive removers like Goo Gone.

However, if you want to keep Velcro hidden or are too worried about that paint peeling off, use our Hidden Velcro Method, so it’s out of sight, protected from the elements, and ready to reuse next time.

Method B- The Hidden Velcro Method

(Skip to 2:01 in the video. The cleaner, longer-lasting method)

Note: The banner may sit higher with this method- purely visual and does not affect function. You lose only the amount you move the cover up when using the hidden Velcro method. We recommend shifting it just enough to tuck under the weather strip, so you’ll only lose a couple of inches.

1. Open & Clean- Lift the garage door about 1/4 — just enough to reach the upper front face of the door with a ladder from inside the garage. Wipe this section (the part that tucks under the rubber seal when the door is closed) with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.

2. Stick the Velcro – Stick the Velcro to the top part you just cleaned, end to end.

3. Attach the Cover – Start from one top corner and press the top of the banner onto the velcro. Let the rest hang straight to avoid tangling with the door tracks or opener chain.

4. Hook the Bottom- Step down, adjust the bungees so the cover is snug, not overstretched. Hook them to the second hinge. Open and close the door once — if bands pull too tight at halfway, lengthen slightly and recheck.

Done!

Tip: To check placement, lightly stick one corner using extra velcro strips sent in each bag, close the door to see where the bottom edge lands, then adjust before applying the full strip.

Pro Tips

  • Install during daylight while the door is closed
  • Center the banner before pressing it down
  • Reuse and store it in the included cloth bag between seasons

Velcro  Removal

When removing the Velcro, always warm the adhesive first using a hair dryer or heat gun on low-medium setting and keep it moving. Heating softens the adhesive, making it easier to remove. Once warm, peel the Velcro slowly at a low angle, not straight out — this protects your garage door surface and makes removal smooth and clean. Also, never put Velcro if the paint is not fully cured.

If you’re still concerned about paint, we recommend using our Hidden Velcro Method: place the top Velcro strip under the upper trim/lip of your garage door so it stays out of sight year-round. This avoids attaching adhesive directly to the painted area while still giving you a secure, easy installation every season.
